A Very Guilty Pleasure

Hey Upper East Side, Gossip Girl here, your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite.

A very guilty pleasure of mine is Gossip Girl.

For the last two months, I have religiously watched Gossip Girl on Netflix. And yes, religiously. I stayed up ’til late and lacked a social life whilst I binge-watched over privileged teens battle the highs and lows of their glamorous lifestyles. It has literally been a way of life for me for a short period of time. For those who don’t know, Gossip Girl is a TV series about ‘Upper East Side’ teenagers who are constantly watched and documented on their every move by an ‘anonymous’ blogger(s). GOSSIP GIRL

WARNING: This next section may contain cringe-worthy content.  After finishing a grand total of one hundred and twenty one episodes of Gossip Girl, I was envious of the portrayal of the basic themes of GG. Friendship, particularly between Serena Van Der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf, was admirable to say the least. Despite the constant fallings out and the boyfriend stealing, it wasn’t hard to notice that they always had each other’s back, no matter what. They cried together, laughed together and lived together. Who wouldn’t long for a friendship like that? (Minus the arguments, and the boyfriend stealing… and the name calling).

Besides Dan and Nate, it was clear that money was no object to Blair, Serena and Chuck. They could literally throw away a million pounds and barely notice the missing weight in their pocket.  Endless high brand shopping sprees, a shoe collection greater than the empire state building and a penthouse for a home… the life of an Upper East Sider seems flawless from a materialistic perspective.

And most of all, don’t we all dream of finding love like Dan and Serena, and Chuck and Blair? Although the journey for love for each character was treacherous and tiring, the ultimate result was close to a fairy tale ending.

Please let me know your thoughts and musings on Gossip Girl. ALSO, PLEASE CAN YOU SUGGEST SOMETHING ELSE TO BINGE WATCH ON NETFLIX, PRETTY PLEASE? And feel free to send in tips.

YOU KNOW YOU LOVE ME,

XOXO GOSSIP GIRL

  1. I’ve been a GG fan since day one of it’s premiere on the CW…no guilt in this pleasure! 😀 Blair is my favorite character and Chuck was perfection too. Glad you enjoyed your binge-a-thon. I love a good Netflix binge.

  2. I’m surprised by how much I love Gossip Girl. I think Serena has to be my favourite character and I loved Chuck’s character development, too. I’m trying to find something else to watch on Netflix but I’m not sure what tickles my fancy yet.
